A customer searching for a nearby repair shop, café or consultant usually needs a few dependable answers: what you do, whether you serve their area, when you are available and how to contact you. AI can help make those answers clearer. It cannot promise first place in local search.
If you have spent years running a business, you already know the details that matter to customers. The useful task is to turn that knowledge into accurate public information, then check whether it helps people reach the right service.
Start with the business facts
Make a short reference sheet before asking AI to write anything. Include your real business name, relevant address or service area, phone number, website, normal and holiday hours, actual services and any restrictions on bookings. Add who will approve changes.
For example, a mobile repair business may serve three named towns but have no premises customers can visit. An assistant should not turn that into three branch offices. Mark anything uncertain for the owner to confirm.
Google’s Business Profile guidelines explain requirements for business names, addresses and service areas. Use the real-world business name rather than adding a list of search phrases. Check eligibility and the rules that apply to your type of business before changing location information.
Ask for a clarity review
Copy only your public listing text and approved facts into the assistant. Avoid uploading customer messages, payment information or appointment lists to a tool you have not approved for that data.
Compare this public business description with the approved facts below. Identify unclear wording, missing practical information and claims not supported by the facts. Draft a shorter description in plain English. Do not add locations, qualifications, opening hours, prices, awards or promises. List questions for the owner separately.
Read the result as a customer would. Could someone mistake a service enquiry for a confirmed booking? Does “emergency support” imply a service you do not provide? Would a visitor know whether there is step-free access if that information has actually been checked?
Publish only after the responsible person approves the facts. Save the date and the specific fields changed so future corrections are straightforward.
Improve the website page people land on
Choose one important service page. It should explain the service, the area actually covered, what the customer needs to provide and the next step. Include relevant limitations, such as an inspection being required before a final quote.
Consider this fictional example: “We repair domestic washing machines in Northfield and Westbrook. Send the model number and a description of the problem to request an appointment. We confirm availability before a visit.” It gives a customer something useful to do without inventing speed, prices or a guaranteed repair.
Ask AI to suggest questions a first-time customer might have, then answer only those you can verify. A helpful page about an actual service is a better starting project than producing dozens of nearly identical pages for towns you barely serve.
Use photos and reviews honestly
Prefer current, authorized photos of the premises, products or work you actually do. Label illustrative stock imagery appropriately. Check that a generated image does not appear to document a job your business never performed.
Use a consistent, neutral request for feedback from customers rather than asking only people you expect to praise you. Do not have AI invent customer reviews or experiences. When drafting a public reply, remove private details and approve the wording before it is posted. Our article on honest review requests and helpful replies covers that separate task.
Measure enquiries, not a ranking promise
Google’s local ranking guidance describes relevance, distance and prominence as factors, and says businesses cannot request or pay for a better local ranking. Accurate information is useful work; it does not remove competition or change a searcher’s location.
For a simple four-week check, note the changes made and count relevant enquiries using the records your business already keeps. Ask which service people wanted and whether the information helped. Distinguish a website click or call attempt from an actual appointment or sale.
Suppose enquiries increase from ten to fourteen after you update a page. That is worth examining, but it does not prove that AI caused the increase. Seasonality, referrals, advertising and chance may also matter. Record what you can observe without overstating the explanation.
A manageable first session
Spend fifteen minutes checking hours and contact details, fifteen minutes clarifying one description and ten minutes testing the customer journey on a phone. Can you read the page, tap the correct number and understand what happens next?
Set a reminder to recheck information when services or hours change. The goal is a dependable business presence that real customers can use. AI earns its place when it helps you maintain that accuracy with less effort.
