AI-generated drafts can contain awkward writing, unsupported claims, and invented details. If you have relevant editing or subject knowledge, helping someone correct a draft may be a useful service to explore.

Decide which kind of review you can provide
Different services require different skills:
- Copyediting improves clarity, grammar, and consistency.
- Fact-checking tests specific claims against suitable evidence.
- Subject-matter review evaluates material using relevant specialist knowledge.
Do not describe a grammar check as comprehensive fact-checking. Likewise, knowing how to use an AI tool does not qualify someone to approve medical, legal, or financial advice.
Start with a type of content you understand and a scope you can explain. Agree on whether you will check every factual claim or a defined subset.
Work from the source material
Ask for the intended audience, the purpose of the document, the approved source material, and any style or confidentiality requirements. Find out which facts the client must confirm directly.
For a fictional example, an event note says “Saturday workshop, ages 18 and over; price awaiting confirmation.” An AI draft says “Free Saturday workshop for all ages.”
The appropriate correction is to preserve the age restriction and flag the missing price. A reviewer should not invent a ticket cost or assume that “awaiting confirmation” means free.
Keep a claim log
For important factual statements, record the claim, the source you checked, the relevant date, and the outcome. Useful outcomes include supported, needs correction, and unresolved.
Open the source itself. Check that it supports the specific claim, relates to the right product or place, and is current enough for the question. A real link can still point to irrelevant evidence.
The NIST generative-AI risk profile describes the risk of confidently presented false content. Asking another chatbot to agree with a claim does not replace checking the underlying evidence.
Do not fill an unresolved gap with a plausible answer. Tell the client what is missing and who may be able to confirm it.
Define what the customer will receive
A small assignment could include an edited document, a change summary, and a list of claims still awaiting confirmation. Agree on length, turnaround, revision limits, source access, and price before starting.
Explain your use of AI accurately. If a client prohibits AI tools, respect that requirement. For permitted use, agree on what information may be shared and which account or tool is acceptable.

Evaluate opportunities carefully
Separate an actual job advertisement from a platform’s general invitation to apply. Confirm the company, the duties, the location requirements, the payment terms, and any assessment requirements through official channels.
The FTC’s job-scam guidance warns about paying for a promised job and fake checks that require sending money onward. Research the organization independently before sharing sensitive information.

Make one transparent sample
Write a short fictional draft containing a few obvious errors and edit it against a supplied fact sheet. Show what you corrected and what remained unresolved. Label the exercise as a sample.
This demonstrates your process without implying paid experience you do not have. Use the time spent on the exercise to judge whether you can perform the work carefully and at a sustainable price.
